Barrackpore Cantonment is a city and a Cantonment Board of North 24 Parganas district in the Indian state of West Bengal. It is close to Kolkata and also a part of the area covered by Kolkata Metropolitan Development Authority. It is situated on the bank of Hooghly River has the distinction of being the oldest in the country, indeed the sub continent and came in to being in 1772 and remained the symbolic seat of military power until the capital of British India was shifted from Kolkata to New Delhi.

Barrackpore Cantonment is bounded by North Barrackpore Municipality on the north and Barrackpore Municipality on the east and south , the Hooghly River on the west.

As per Census of India 2011, Barrackpore Cantonment Board had a civil population of 17,380 of which 8872 (51%) were males and 8508 (49%) were females. Population below 6 years was 1447. The total number of literates in Barrackpore Cantonment Board was 14098 (88.47% of the population over 6 years).

Barrackpore Cantonment is connected through several roads like Barrack Road, Strand Road, Court Road, etc and with S.N. Banerjee Road it’s connected to Ghosh para Road, Barrackpore-Barasat Road (towards Kalyani Expressway and National Highway 12) and Barrackpore Trunk Road. The nearest Railway station is Barrackpore Railway Station, which is only 1 km away. There are three ferry service stations one inside Cantonment Board Barrackpore named Barrackpore Dhobi Ghat two in north Barrackpore Municipality which is only ½ km away. Nearest Civil Airport is Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport which is 25 km far away from the area. But there is a military Air Base in Barrackpore Cantonment owned by Indian Air Force.
